Live:work barn conversion, Gloucestershire

The Project:  live/work barn conversion

The Client:  private developer/owner

The Brief:  The creation of a new live work unit from a series of redundant farm buildings was achieved against planning policy by creating a sustainable development and protecting the long term future of an important historic timber framed barn.

The Solution:  The 3 existing buildings comprised of an oak framed barn, a blockwork cow shed and a steel and cotswold stone tractor shed, all of which were ageing and in need of repair and refurbishment.  There were also ecological issues with a bat roost, now relocated in the roof of the commercial unit, a lack of mains drainage and a planning requirement to protect and reuse all of the existing structures.  The proposed scheme refurbishes the existing buildings to provide a 3 bedroom contemporary dwelling with hand crafted oak staircase and a 3 office working unit complete with reception, kitchenette and accessible wc.
